Lindenau Farm

Lindenau Farm is located in Somers, Connecticut, very close to the Massachusetts border. We are a small, family horse farm located on almost 13 acres of flat, open land. Lindenau Farm is also home to our dog boarding operation, where your four-legged friend is treated as part of the family at our unique “home away from home” set up.

Our dog boarding facility is located inside Sarah’s house, so dogs feel as though they never left their own home. Our kennel area is set up as a cozy family room, equipped with a television, couch, chairs, and even a mini fridge. Many nights you will find Sarah curled up on the couch with one of the boarding dogs, so they truly feel like they are “home”. When Sarah is not with the dogs, we play soothing music to promote a calm and relaxing atmosphere. During the day, your pup receives plenty of exercise – dogs can play in a large, fenced in area where there is ample space to run, chase a ball or watch the horses and feel like a farm dog. In addition to the large exercise area, we have a smaller fenced in area off the back of the house, connected directly to the kennel area for quick breaks when needed. Also, dogs can have the opportunity to go for walks around the property and feel as if they are on their own private trail – a favorite of many boarders!

For our horses, Lindenau Farm offers a spacious barn, large grass turnouts as well as a 60’x100′ outdoor that has lights and GGT footing. We also have a grass jump field for days you would like to have a change of scenery for your ride. The horses have access to the same loop around the property where we walk the dogs – perfect for hacking or rehabbing horses. There are a few small logs placed around the property, the goal being to build upon this small cross-country course over time. The horse’s well-being is the number one priority at our farm, and we take great pride in doing all we can for them.

About Sarah

Sarah has had a dog as part of her family since she was a little girl. In 2016, Sarah adopted a dog, Domino, with a strong prey drive and began to focus on his training to ensure he lived a happy and safe life on the farm.  Because of this focus, their bond and connection grew to be unbreakable and Domino lived the life we all dream of for our four legged best friend. Unfortunately, Sarah lost Domino to brain cancer in 2020 but, because of him, her passion for dog training and animal behavior has become more of an obsession. She has been putting the tools she has learned from Pet Behavior Consulting in Granby, MA and Star Power Dog Training in Somers, CT, toward her relationship with her current pack of mixed breed hounds. Sarah has had a long career working with animals in a variety of settings. From being a camp counselor for the Zoo in Forest Park, to being an assistant for a small animal surgeon at a specialty veterinary hospital, Sarah has the passion and knowledge for making sure your dog’s needs are met while they enjoy their stay at the farm. Sarah is knowledgeable in small animal First Aid and is CPR and Fear Free certified.  Also, Lindenau Farm is a licensed and insured kennel. Your dog’s safety, health and comfort are of the utmost importance to Lindenau Farm.

Sarah has been riding and competing with her horses for the past 25 years. When she was younger, her focus was mostly on the equitation and hunter rings but a few years ago, she transitioned to eventing and never looked back.  In 2020, Sarah began teaching as well as competing.  Her priority with the student is horsemanship and building confidence on the ground as well as in the saddle. The horse always comes first, and it is very important to make a connection with the horse to help understand its needs and help us become better riders. With the knowledge and skills Sarah has gained from a degree in elementary education, she understands that everyone has a different learning style and creates an individualized program for every student based on their goals and ability. Sarah believes it is important for students to have the opportunity to ride with other instructors to help expand their knowledge and skills. Sarah’s instructor, Bevin O’Reilly Dugan of O’Reilly Equestrian, based in Southern Vermont, is a frequent visitor to Lindenau Farm and students have the opportunity to ride with her as well.  Sarah also participates in a variety of clinics and events throughout the year that she encourages her students to attend and audit.
